IT’S LOCAL: REYNOLDA HOUSE MUSEUM
I was very fortunate to be part of a day long “field trip” to Winston-Salem, N.C. to the
Reynolda House Museum
First, there is the exhibit.
“The Artist’s Garden: American Impressionism and the Garden Movement
1887-1920”

It. Is. Fabulous.
It is a must-see if you are anywhere near…or make a trip of it. Many of the paintings are from private collections so are rarely seen. The exhibit was organized by the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and includes some paintings from their collection also. (Aside: can’t believe I actually took some painting courses there many years ago!)

Second: the house and grounds.
The house is a “bungalow” style, typical of the South and here in North Carolina…although this, with twelve bedrooms is hardly a modest bungalow. It was designed and built by RJ Reynolds and his wife Katherine and completed in 1917. You can read about and explore the fascinating history of this house, the farm and the family on the website.
