SUN PROTECTION FOR GARDENERS

By |2015-05-20T15:28:32-04:00May 17, 2015|Garden, Shopping|

Using sun screen protection while gardening is very important. No matter where you live, or how old you are, it is an issue we all need to consider.

So how do we protect ourselves when out in the garden? I spend hours outside in the strong, hot Southern sun and, as I’ve gotten older, my skin reacts badly to the smallest amount of sun. I wear strong sunscreen on my face every day of the year and now I try to wear SPF clothing.

Coolibar
recently asked if I would try out some of their “Sun Protection You Wear” clothing and talk about it in a blog post.

Have you heard of this company and its great line of sun protection clothing?
No?
I have become very, very aware of the sun and the damage it’s doing (and has done) to my skin. In addition to wearing sun screen every day of the year on my face and hands, I have started to buy UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) clothing for outdoors. Yes, it’s tricky to wear long sleeves (arms are one my “problem areas”) in hot, humid weather. But these fabrics are so lightweight that it helps. And they wash, and dry, quickly and easily.

I am especially careful to always wear a “rash guard” when I swim. I do my laps, in full sun, either late morning or at lunch time and the sun is hot and bright. My gorgeous cherry/magenta rash guard with long sleeves really gives me protection: I put it on right as I head toward the pool, then peel it off as soon as I get out.

Here’s a selection from their catalog:

SUN PROTECTION CLOTHING: IDEAS AND SUGGESTIONS

The sun is really dangerous, as I have found out.
Luckily, I have discovered this in time…in time to take better care of my skin and myself. But oh, the damage that was done many years ago is something I don’t like to think about.
So for all of you young ‘uns out there, you just have to trust us that it’s not good for you.
Of course, block out is essential. But today I’m going to talk about, and show you some suggestions for, sun protective clothing and accessories. No, not “your grandmother’s style”, but hip, fun, stylish and fun clothing that you just might consider wearing. I am about to order some of these…
My latest find is Coolibar. This was my dermatologist’s preferred brand. All their clothing has a 98% UV protection rate, and 50% UPF (Ultra Violet Protection Factor). Aside from those statistics, they have great styles!
Here is what I am considering at the moment:
First: Cover-ups aka long sleeve help
These are just plain great coverups. You can roll them, scrunch them into a ball, use as shown or as a wrap, behind your head on a plane, or even as a bathing […]
