By |2015-03-12T12:03:54-04:00March 12, 2015|Uncategorized|

If you’re here, on the blog, and reading this….
well,
GOOD!

We are having some major server problems and the blog has been mostly down, off-line, for the last few days. Sometimes it’s up and running; but mostly it’s down. I’m  hoping this will post while the blog (for the moment) is up and running.

We are working on it!

Thank you, one and all, for your patience.

MOST POPULAR POSTS OF 2014

By |2015-01-04T13:13:42-05:00January 4, 2015|Uncategorized|

Which posts, of the almost 100 for the year 2014, were the most popular? Which posts received the greatest number of hits?

Here’s a quick look at posts that were published during the year, 2014. I am very happy with my switch over to WordPress.org a year ago HOWEVER I do miss how Blogger automatically tracks hits for each post. WordPress requires a little more sleuth work to dig deep into your stats…but well worth the time!

It’s always interesting to see just what you all read, and re-read, and share. Many of my travel posts were popular, but this was the #1 hit:

CHOOSING A HOTEL: CHARLESTON

These two tied for second place:

OUTDOOR SIDE TABLES  and OUTDOOR DINING: THE MELAMINE TREND

These two posts make me think you all like to see a category of items, curated by me, with links for further information. More of this type of post will be coming your way.

  And in third place:

ADDITIONS TO THE BLOG: CATEGORIES

By |2014-12-02T21:28:56-05:00December 2, 2014|Uncategorized|

Let’s keep it organized!

As you know, I write about several different subjects, and these vary from week to week. Only “Friday Flowers” has remained an absolute constant each and every Friday; otherwise I usually post on Sunday night for a Monday morning delivery to all email subscribers.

What’s the point here you may ask? Just to let you know that I have added a new “widget” to my sidebar over there on the right!

If you have searched for a specific subject, word, title etc. you have been able to find it here, on the sidebar:

Screen Shot 2014-12-01 at 8.20.16 PM Search a word, a subject, a title etc.

But now you can also search, or just look around, a specific “Category”, again over on the sidebar:

Screen Shot 2014-12-01 at 8.22.46 PM These are the main categories of subjects I write about.

And when you click on one of these “Categories” you will see a page with just excerpts of posts, not the entire post. This way you can more easily and quickly scan through the posts and pages.

As another aside, I am also trying to keep my Pinterest boards more up to date! I let it slide for many months […]

QUICK AND EASY NAPKIN RINGS

By |2014-11-15T20:51:18-05:00November 16, 2014|Uncategorized|

Want to make some quick and easy, and very pretty, napkin rings?
I didn’t have much time, and didn’t want to go out shopping for any supplies, but needed wanted some fun napkin rings for a small dinner party we were hosting.

Don’t know where I got the idea..but I took a paper towel roll and cut it into about 2″ sections.  What to put over it? I tried several papers, layers of yarn and string, and then discovered this great burlap “ribbon” in my supplies basket.

IMG_5105_wm My original idea was to do a real “fall” look, thus the leaf.

IMG_5110_wm Then I found this new ribbon from World Market which I have wanted to use…

IMG_5125_wm A few of my supplies.

LETS GO TO THE MOVIES: “CHEF”

By |2014-06-29T17:47:36-04:00June 29, 2014|Uncategorized|

We went to see “Chef.”
Jon Favreau was wonderful. It took me a while to place Oliver Platt and where I had seen him (West Wing!). The color and movement in the film was what I liked: lots of action but a real “people” story to go with it.

It was a last minute decision, as we/I don’t go to the movies very often, as in perhaps twice a year. I don’t like violence or rather, I simply will not watch violence so that eliminates probably 80% of the films out there. I also don’t like animation, sci-fi, or just the totally ridiculous, contrived, “noisy” movies that are on the screen.  No, give me a romance, a life story, some history or almost always something French, and I am happy. If you’re wondering what I DO like…well, how about “The Hotel Marigold”, or “Monuments Men” or “The Kings Speech.” To me, those are movies worth seeing for the story, setting, acting etc.

Take a look at the trailer:

If you do see, or have seen it, let us know what you think.

Have a wonderful holiday everyone, and I will see you some time next week!

A VIDEO STARRING TWO BIRDS!

By |2014-05-07T21:32:11-04:00May 7, 2014|Uncategorized|

A conversation between two birds.

It sounds more like a story book, no? It may be an unlikely subject for a video, but it’s wonderful.

Watch the Raven and the Snowy Owl “talk” to each other!

It is amazing and beautiful and I just had to post and show you.
So, slow down and watch and be entranced.

I saw this on Margaret Roach’s site
A Way to Garden

It’s lovely, no?
