I don’t generally search long and hard for just the right mascara. Most of the time I will buy a brand at the drugstore and yes, it works just fine.
And then I started hearing about the
Bobbi Brown ‘Smokey Eye’ Mascara
and how fantastic it is. So, I tried it.

And I love it! Goes on smoothly, doesn’t clump (at all..) , is easy to apply to both upper and lower lashes, and has lasted longer than most. I just bought my second.

As to my brows…no, this is definitely NOT an item I have focused on or thought much about. Occasionally I will use some color on them; I get them waxed regularly. It has always seemed a bit superfluous and over-the-top to me to hear people obsess over eyebrows!

Not any more. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this small “tube” of gel color with the perfect size brush. I use the No. 1 which is the lightest.  So easy and quick to apply and the results are amazing. I know, I’m a little late to the party: but better late than never!
Try it…you will like it!

What would Thanksgiving be without cranberries?

I love cranberry sauce, but the very best is with whole berries.
I’ve posted about this sauce in the past, and given you the recipe here:
Best Ever Cranberry Sauce

I made it again (for maybe the 10th year in a row?) last week; froze three nice containers of it; and can’t wait to dig in on Thursday!

Another wonderful way to use cranberries is this
“Must Make” Cake

This recipe is from Ina Garten. It’s very very easy to make, looks beautiful, and guaranteed to please. I am not a pie person, so am considering this on Thanksgiving (family is telling me no…must have pie!)

But guess what? Thanksgiving Day, this year, happens to also be my Birthday!! So I get to choose, right?

One last recipe from THE CLEVER CARROT
“Stuffed Endives with Cranberries & Roquefort”

Just how beautiful is this appetizer? Nothing too heavy before a big Thanksgiving dinner, but […]

We use an electric tea kettle so many times each day: probably 10-12 clicks of the switch. We use it to heat water for both tea and coffee. So it’s a critical part of my kitchen!

This is my newest and latest tea kettle love:

Chef’s Choice 681

The capacity of this baby is 1.7 liters….that is many, many cups of tea or coffee. One fill up lasts us almost an entire day.

Blue light comes on when it’s heating up; it takes just five minutes with a totally full kettle. It does NOT have any beep or signal when it comes to a boil: the blue light just goes off.

Our last kettle held maybe three full cups. So yes, this is heavier when you pour the first cup but the convenience far outweighs (no pun intended!) the extra muscle power needed..

A few years ago I tried the so-very-cute Bodum kettle.

If you read the link to my post you will see why it’s “thumbs down”on this one.

Next I tried this one, […]

I don’t go to the movies very often. There just are not many movies I want to see.
I don’t like violence, sci-fi, or animation of any kind. “Star Wars”: definitely not.

So that kind of limits what I will see! I loved “Chef“. Ditto “The King’s Speech“. “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel“. Well, anything with Helen Mirren! Or Judy Dench.

 And now there is “Brooklyn.”
If you haven’t seen it, I recommend you go!
It’s a sweet love story. Period.

The movie is based on the 2009 book by Colm Toibin, an Irish author. For a review of the movie, here is the New York Times from a few months ago.

I knew the author’s name as I have just finished his “Homage to Barcelona”. A friend lent me the book when we returned from our trip there in November; I suggest reading it before you go to that wonderful city.

Have you seen “Brooklyn?”

This is one of my new favorite products!

How do you clean your hands when you’re travelling or on the road?
Maybe you use a small bottle of “hand sanitizer” or maybe you just wait until you get to a sink.

You have to try these!
Here is some information from the company,
based in Santa Barbara, California.
“Herban Essentials uses the highest quality, 100% pure, therapeutic grade, steam distilled or cold pressed essential oils. In addition to the lovely pleasing scents, essential oils are endowed with antibacterial, antiseptic, and unique therapeutic properties.

Essential oils have tremendous healing and therapeutic properties and we have experienced their benefits first hand. We only create products we love to use ourselves.  Our goal is to make it easy to take  essential oils on the go; the most common use for our towelettes is to cleanse hands and kill germs, but there are millions of ways to use our wonderful wipes.”

In my purse, all set to go:

You can buy them here.

I have only used the Lavender…and can say, […]

Let’s give a cheer for the white shirt!

J Jill

The shirt above is from J Jill and is my current favorite. It’s long (perfect for leggings), it’s crisp, and it has some stretch (4% spandex.) It also irons beautifully. Yes, it’s still too hot to wear it often but cooler days are on the way!

Some other ideas for this wardrobe must-have:

The J Jill shirt/tunic is about mid-price range and just feels good the minute you put it on. I like to wear it with a fun colored camisole underneath and then a statement necklace.
How about you? Are you a fan of this basic but sophisticated wardrobe essential?
