Indigo blue is everywhere this season. Catalogs, stores, trade-only sources, Etsy and the forever-in-my-inbox-website stores…. they are all showing indigo.
As you may know, I was never a blue person. I honestly think it was from “blue overload” in my Mother’s house. Everything was blue. Even her clothes were mostly blue. So, of course, I turned to other colors: there was the neutral phase, the yellow, the green, and early on even the pink phase. I’m “warming up” to blues these days and especially indigo. There is something so positive and down to earth about this deep, rich color.
Let’s take a look at some really great indigo blues on the market today.
Lots to think about here and I hope you will go to some of the sources. It’s fun for me to gather all this information and I hope you enjoy and find it useful. With the advent of warmer weather and outdoor eating I’ll be doing another roundup of melamine dinnerware, so stay tuned!
My mother looked best in blue because of her beautiful eyes and I always associate this color with her. My favorite of the pieces you highlight is the first pillow with lots of black and white. It’s very crisp…perfect for the season ahead.

Marian: Yes, I like that pillow and these colors are really growing on me. How are things in your garden? I am SO happy to be out there again!!!
Hi Libby – I’m with you on blues – it just screams cold and dated to me. However I do think this new indigo is a refreshing change. And I think it’s because it’s a “bright” colour (think Maria Killam). I’ve always been a fan of navy and white and maybe the indigo is close enough that it’s drawing me to it.

Hi Heather: yes, I like Maria Killam a lot. These dark colors are so different from the traditional blue/white you see and yes, much more contemporary. Have to start small with these, I guess!
I have to admit I’ve been a Blue (any shade) and white person my entire adult life. I have solid Indigo coffee cups and solid white coffee cups in our summer cottage and just beware that if you drink black coffee its hard to see where your coffee is in your cup. But everything that Libby has presented here looks so fresh, crisp and new. Lovely and calming!
Thanks, Julie! Yes, these colors are growing on me…but have to see how to incorporate them with all my orange! Hope you all had a good trip.
NOT A BLUE GAL EITHER!!
I do not get why SO many people are…………………

Indigo is my THING these days! It’s even beginning to eclipse pink in my designs. I was delighted to see that you’d linked to my watercolor print — thanks, and love your blog!

The indigo trend would fit perfectly in my sea house. It’s lovely!
