Japanese Anemones ARE fall.
Just like the ubiquitous Chrysanthemum, but, thankfully not as overused, are these beautiful, delicate, luscious flowers.
These two plants are in a mostly shaded area and are several weeks behind those pink flowers, which is a perfect way to spread out the color in the fall season!
And here is the white, from a year ago, in full bloom:
Don’t forget, the WINNER of the Perfect Linens Giveaway will be announced HERE on Monday, September 28th. Be sure to check back: it just might be YOU!
I saw many new varieties of Japanese anemones on my recent trip to England, but nothing tops ‘Honorine Jobert’. I love its graceful, wiry stems of fresh white flowers. Hard to believe this “still best” old garden hybrid was discovered in France in1859.

Marian: 1859? Been around a long time indeed! My neighbor has a fun magenta, double Anemone that she has let me dig up. I’ll have to post, at least on IG.
I would love to talk to you some time about your recent trip….we are already thinking of next spring and I would love to do a short garden tour in England. I’ll write you….
I’ve never grown them. Don’t know why as they are so gorgeous!! Maybe I’ll find room next year.

Heather: Yes, get some and grow them! Very easy and such a great addition in the fall.
I love your “Friday Flowers” posts! I see something new almost every week. Do you grow Japanese Anemones here in Fearrington? I may need to check them out for next year!
Oh Martha, you are very nice! It just might be my favorite “column” that I do. Yes, the pink ones were here when we bought, then I added the white. Wayne has a gorgeous magenta that she says I can come dig up! I had them up North too and they did well there. We are old friends!
BEAUTIFUL……………JUST PERFECT!
