Let’s give a cheer for the white shirt!
The shirt above is from J Jill and is my current favorite. It’s long (perfect for leggings), it’s crisp, and it has some stretch (4% spandex.) It also irons beautifully. Yes, it’s still too hot to wear it often but cooler days are on the way!
Some other ideas for this wardrobe must-have:
The J Jill shirt/tunic is about mid-price range and just feels good the minute you put it on. I like to wear it with a fun colored camisole underneath and then a statement necklace.
How about you? Are you a fan of this basic but sophisticated wardrobe essential?
Yes!!! One cannot have too many white shirts in ones wardrobe! I will be checking out J Jill for that one.
Hi Martha:
Maybe I’ll wear it next Tuesday and you can see! So glad you commented here!!!
First, I love a good white shirt, but it can be hard to find one that isn’t too sheer. Second, J. Jill is my favorite store to shop at. I think they have good quality clothes that are flattering (many of the tops hide the midsection nicely) and stylish, and affordable. Eileen Fisher is my favorite designer, but very expensive. All the Eileen Fisher pieces I’ve bought over the years I’ve gotten on sale and they are timeless so I wear them for many years. I’ll have to check out the J. Jill white shirt tunic. Thanks for the recommendation.

Claudia: I too love the Eileen Fisher look, but am always a bit discouraged from buying such high price items! I’ve got to start going to the sales at Nordstrom. But J Jill has really come a long way, no? Used to be so frumpy and now I like their things a lot. This shirt is especially nice as it’s so long. Let me know what you find..
Hi Libby and Claudia,
Ditto on the white shirt. I have a long Ralph Lauren linen and a long J Jill with ethnic embroidery I wear often. I prefer a uniform at this stage in my life and have a couple of looks I always go to. White shirt and jeans, black slacks or tan slacks is my favorite combo. Colorful or interesting flats or wedges add interest. Eileen Fisher prices are getting ridiculous. I used to love the sale rack of EF at the Nordstrom near us in Ohio. No such thing down here.
Cindy: Well, if you ever get over this way we can go to Nordstrom together! I’m going tomorrow to look for comfy (read, orthotic friendly) boots for our trip to Paris in November. And yes, I tend to wear the same kind of outfit, changed seasonally because, of course, I don’t need to be in an office these days! Makes life much easier…..
I love a white blouse and you found great ones…love the second one from Nordstrom and bonus…it’s on sale!! Happy Wednesday ~

I’ve just recently become a convert to the white shirt! And, of course, I do love ironing so I guess this works well for me….
One of the most important clothes in every girl’s closet is white shirt! White shirt, black blazer, Levis jeans, little black dress and one pair of white sneakers and one pair of classic high-heels.
