This story involves a chair.
But it also involves a blogger friend, Autumn of Design Dump!
Thank you, Autumn!!!!

Here is the chair that was:

This is a really nice, very well made arm chair… purchased probably fifteen years ago… no, make that
twenty, from Domain.  It has served us well; even the dog loved to sleep on top of the back cushion!
But the springs were beginning to go and the slipcover:  oh no! All wrong for our new living room here.
Thus began the search for fabric.

It didn’t take long! I went to Printers Alley in Raleigh and bingo! found just what I wanted the first time round.

Wonderful gray, yellow, citrine & mustard. Love at first sight!

Not to beat a dead horse, as they say.. but listen up:
On the left below you can just see the chair (behind the bright faux flowers!). It was fine (well, ok, with the sisal rug) but once we put down the new gray/white rug it was AWFUL. No No No.

So my new gray & yellow fabric was just the thing. I also wanted to update the chair: take off the skirt and tighten up the upholstery look. Nailhead trim? Yes, I love it. But we already had some on that green, Mitchell Gold, chair over there on the right.
Contrast piping! I love it.
Solid linen would be just the thing.

And then I remembered Autumn writing of her great find for solid linen.

I went on over to Grayline Fabrics and looked around.

I ordered the “Warsa” and the “Judy” cards. They arrived within a few days. Then I ordered some swatches…again, they arrived with the week.

This is THE place to go folks!

At $12.00 a yard, you’re just not going to find this quality, choice of color, and fabulous service anywhere else.

And….ta da…. here’s the chair

Needless to say, I am very happy with it! Thanks to Angel Upholstery in Chapel Hill the chair has a new life. For anyone who lives around here, I recommend Angel highly. He listens, AND he finished the job in less than two weeks. Now where, I ask you, do you ever get service like that?
P.S. Yes, I am designing a pillow or two for the chair: I think maybe the gold linen in a lumbar size, with a wide stripe of the print around the middle?
