Most of you know by now that we rented an apartment on the Ile St. Louis. (Yes, I am home now!)

And that, my friends, is the difference between France and the United States….
Let’s climb up. Ninety-six steps: yep, my husband counted them each time we went up!
The first flight was all marble, the second, wood. The marble, in particular (forgot to take a picture of it) was SO worn that not only did each step have a marked indentation, but they slanted downwards. My first thought, on seeing these stairs, was: HOW are we ever going to get the suitcases down them? Well, we managed quite well actually. Easier going down than up, that’s for sure….
